Eilidh's work placement
My name is Eilidh Cadden and I am in 4th year at Balerno High School. For my 4th year work placement I was lucky enough to find a placement at Johari in Edinburgh. My week was spent working with Ruth and Laura in the Johari Foundation office in Edinburgh. My week was spent editing photos for the Johari Foundation website and helping to set up a Facebook page for Johari the clothing brand with Morvern a graduate student from Caledonian University.
I also went along to a Johari photo shoot and helped to style the new homeware range and the new winter cardigan collection. Photographer Paul from Coppermango also gave me some hints and tips on photography.
On my last day at Johari I had to research Facebook to identify shops and contacts that would be interested in Johari products and had to label some of the the Johari stock.
Working at Johari has helped me to understand how a business is run, and the basics on how a fashion company works and has also made me become very aware of how my clothes are made and who’s making them - so I’ll be sure to stop at a Johari stockist next time I’m shopping!
Essentially Johari is a charity that is more than Fairtrade. They give 100% of the profit back to the communities in Kenya and the 5 girls who enjoy making all their products. I have found it a privilege to work at Johari and see the links that have been made all over the world.
So thank you Johari for letting me join you!
